Frequently Asked Questions
Before you first visit with your Cornerstone Dental team, you may have a lot of questions. We want your first visit, and every subsequent visit, to run smoothly. To ensure a comfortable and relaxing dental visit, we address a number of frequently asked questions. If we didn’t answer all of your dental questions, then feel free to contact your Polk City dentist today.
Q: I really do not like visiting the dentist, is there anything you can do to help me relax?
A: We know that any people are uncomfortable with visiting the dentist, and we want your visit to be as pleasant as possible. At Cornerstone Dental, we designed our office to make you as comfortable as possible. For example, DirecTV is available to watch during your visit. Nitrous oxide is also offered to keep you comfortable and relaxed. You may also enjoy paraffin hand treatments or a heated neck wrap, as well. Your comfort is our priority.
Q: I know I need X-Rays, but I’d prefer to not be exposed to unnecessary radiation. Do you offer digital X-Rays?
A: Most traditional x-rays offer short, occasional exposure to radiation and are safe. However, we share your concern to make that exposure is rare and small. Because of our commitment to your safety, we offer digital x-rays. Digital x-rays use less radiation and are safer for you than traditional film x-rays. This technology also acts much faster, allowing us to see the results and spend more time discussing your treatment options together.
Q: How can losing a back tooth affect my smile?
A: Losing a back tooth causes your smile to undergo significant changes. Missing teeth cause you to chew differently, which can cause pain, and additional gaps or spaces can form around the remaining teeth making the situation worse. Furthermore, missing teeth can ruin your self-confidence. Cornerstone Dental offers many tooth replacement options to restore your smile.
Q: I want my front teeth to look better, but I do not want to wear braces. What would you recommend?
A: Dr. Hussong offers ClearCorrect™ which is an FDA approved system that uses clear, removable aligning trays to incrementally straighten your teeth. There are no unsightly brackets or wires, and because you remove the aligners to eat and drink, there are no food restrictions or problems with brushing or flossing. And since the aligners are clear, most people will never be able to tell you’re wearing them.
Q: What can I expect from my first appointment?
A: First, you will find our office to be pleasant and comfortable. When you come for your appointment, bring your medical and dental forms which we make available from our website for your convenience. During your first appointment, your overall dental and oral health will be assessed with a comprehensive oral evaluation. We’ll also discuss your goals regarding your smile, teeth, and gums. Digital photos and X-Rays will be taken of your teeth to identify areas of decay or damage. Then if necessary, we’ll discuss and decide on a course of treatment. Our goal is to preserve as much of your teeth as possible by catching decay in its earliest stages. We’ll also assess your gums and recommend the appropriate hygiene treatment for you.
Q: I want and need a lot of dental work, but I’m afraid I can’t afford it. Do you offer monthly payment plans?
A: Yes, we do offer convenient payment plans with our financial partner, Care Credit™. We provide a variety of ways for you to pay for your treatment so that it fits comfortably into your personal or family budget. We always work with you to create the solution that accommodates you so you can have the beautiful, healthy smile you have always desired.
Q: My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?
A: Bleeding gums could be caused by something as simple as brushing too hard. However, it’s more likely that the problem could be a sign of gum disease due to plaque or tartar buildup. Almost 80% of adults have some form of gum disease, and it’s easily treatable if caught early. If this problem persists despite correct brushing and flossing methods or occurs every time you brush, contact our office to set up an evaluation appointment. Dr. Hussong will diagnose the severity of the problem and discuss the best course of treatment for you.
Q: How can I safely whiten my teeth?
A: There are a number of procedures available to help whiten your smile, from at-home whitening products to in-office supervised treatments. Dr. Hussong evaluates the potential for whitening your teeth based on their health and status, and will help you decide on the most appropriate method.
